Tele Atlas makes atlases for the era of telecommunications. Founded in 1984, the company develops geographic databases. Its portfolio of digital map data covers more than 200 countries and regions around the globe. Tele Atlas serves the wireless (Verizon), automotive navigation (BMW), and Internet mapping markets (Google). The company, which operates from offices in Asia, Canada, Europe, and the US, also serves the insurance and utilities industries, as well as local, state, and federal government agencies, among others. Tele Atlas was acquired by TomTom in June 2008 for $4.3 billion.
