Tampa Bay Rays Baseball (formerly Tampa Bay Devils Rays) owns and operates Florida's Gulf Coast baseball franchise, which changed its name to the Rays for the 2008 season. The team earned its first American League Pennant that year. The Rays joined Major League Baseball as an expansion franchise in 1998 (along with the Arizona Diamondbacks) and plays host at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. An investment group led by local businessman Vincent Naimoli was originally awarded the MLB franchise; CEO Stuart Sternberg led a management group that purchased control of the team in 2004.
