Stansted Airport Company Description
Stansted Airport sees about 23 million passengers pass through its gates and over its grounds, making it the third-busiest airport near London, behind Heathrow and Gatwick. Some 30 airlines, such as low-fare carriers Ryanair, easyJet, and Air Berlin, touch down on Stansted 's runway and take off for more than 160 destinations, including Dublin, Rome, and Frankfurt. Stansted plans to open a second runway and terminal by 2017. In 2009 the airport added AirAsia X to its stable of airlines, which non-stop flights from London to Kuala Lumpur. Stansted is owned by UK airport operator BAA, which also oversees Heathrow and Gatwick. Stansted opened for traffic in 1991.
