Salient Company Description
Salient Surgical Technologies (formerly TissueLink Medical) tries to keep the blood loss to a minimum. The firm makes the Aquamantys System, a radiofrequency-powered device used to seal blood vessels and other bleeding tissues during surgery. The system consists of a radiofrequency (RF) generator and a disposable handheld tool that delivers RF power combined with saline to permanently seal blood vessels, soft tissue, and bone. Salient markets the system primarily in the US, but also in some international markets, for use in orthopedic hip and knee replacement surgeries and certain types of spinal fusion procedures. It has more than 400 active hospital customers in the US. Salient filed to go public in 2008.
