RAIT Financial Trust Company Description
RAIT Financial Trust (formerly RAIT Investment Trust) was not founded by an '80s hair-rock band, but it is just as commercially minded. The real estate investment trust (REIT) specializes in providing commercial mezzanine and short-term bridge financing, mostly first mortgages that are refinanced with other lenders. It also acquires real estate loans from lenders or investors, typically loans under default or forbearance. Most loans (between $250,000 and $75million) are secured by multifamily residences and other commercial properties. It also invests in apartment buildings in its key markets. Subsidiary Taberna Realty Finance provides long-term real estate capital.
