Propex Company Description

Carpets -- whether berber, pile, or shag -- are just piles of yarn unless they have backing material to give them structure and strength. Propex , formerly Amoco Fabrics and Fibers, produces polypropylene fabrics for industrial use, primarily for carpet backing. Propex also manufactures landscape and erosion control fabric and woven geotextiles, including silt fences and paving products. The company's industrial fibers and fabrics are also used in concrete reinforcement, filtration media, furniture and bedding, automotive applications, and packaging. Propex has manufacturing facilities in Georgia and South Carolina, as well as Brazil, Germany, Hungary, and Mexico. Propex filed Chapter 11 early in 2008.
