The utility distributes natural gas to more than 1 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers (including 62,000 wholesale customers) in the Carolinas and Tennessee. It also has gas transportation and storage operations and sells residential and commercial gas appliances in Tennessee. Piedmont Natural Gas is involved in unregulated energy supply through its 30% stake in SouthStar Energy Services, which serves gas customers in Georgia. It also owns a minority stake in Pine Needle LNG, which owns a liquid natural gas storage facility in North Carolina.
