Overview
Piaggio USA speaks English with an Italian accent. The company is the US sales and marketing division for Piaggio, one of the world's leading makers of two-wheeled vehicles -- or scooters. Piaggio basically invented the scooter class of motorcycle in postwar Italy in 1946 with the introduction of the Vespa. Today, Piaggio USA offers American customers Vespas, as well as other scooter brands from its Italian parent company, including Piaggio, Gilera, and Derbi. Piaggio has factories in China, India, Italy, and Spain. US sales of Piaggio scooters have started to zip along in the wake of increased gasoline prices. The company boasts about 300 dealers in the US.
