Partner Communications Company is delivering the promise of wireless phone service to the land of Israel. One of four mobile phone carriers in Israel, it was the first with a digital GSM (global system for mobile communications) network, which it has enhanced to newer GPRS/UMTS based technologies. Operating under the trademarked "Orange" brand, the company serves more than 2.5 million subscribers. Partner Communications Company has completed a buy-back of some of its shares -- Hutchison Whampoa now owns 51% of the company (through its Hutchison Telecommunications International unit).
