Orion Energy Systems Competition
Now Viewing Orion Energy Systems's competition in: Lighting Equipment Manufacture (primary)
Recent Developments
Lighting Equipment Shipments Decline - Amid continued weakness in the US housing market, demand for electric lighting equipment is decreasing. The value of US electric lighting equipment shipments fell 6.8 percent in March 2008 compared to a year earlier. While the commercial construction sector remains strong with 11.8 percent growth in March 2008 compared to the prior year, growth in the residential sector dropped 19.7 percent.
Chinese LED Lighting Manufacturers Expect More Exports - China's LED lighting manufacturers predict export growth of 10 percent or more over the next year or so, according to Global Sources. Chinese LED lighting manufacturers plan to target Western markets where the higher costs of LED lighting products are more likely to be absorbed. About 56 percent of surveyed Chinese manufacturers are looking to export products to the EU; 35 percent are eyeing the US market. Electric lighting equipment imports from China were down 0.4 percent in first quarter 2008 compared to a year ago.
Lighting Equipment Production Down - Industrial production of electric lighting equipment dropped 13.4 percent in April 2008 compared to a year earlier. Demand for lighting equipment is likely being affected by the ongoing weakness of the US residential construction market. Although overall production was down, US exports of lighting equipment increased 7.8 percent in first quarter 2008 compared to the previous year.
Competitive Landscape
Demand depends primarily on residential, industrial, and commercial construction activity. Large companies have advantages in purchasing power, manufacturing volume, and distribution efficiencies. Small companies compete by offering specialized products and superior customer service in regional markets. Annual revenue per employee is about $200,000.
