MagnaChip Company Description
MagnaChip is a pretty big chip off the block. MagnaChip Semiconductor was formed in 2004 to acquire the non-memory operations of big chip maker Hynix Semiconductor. MagnaChip offers flat-panel display drivers and image sensors. The company also does a large business in silicon foundry (contract manufacturing) services. Two Citigroup units, joined by Francisco Partners, bought the operations from debt-plagued Hynix and established MagnaChip as a freestanding company. Companies associated with LG Group, primarily LG Display, represent more than 10% of sales. More than half of MagnaChip's sales are in South Korea, and Asian customers represent 90% of sales.
