MagnaChip Company Description
MagnaChip is a pretty big chip off the block. MagnaChip Semiconductor was formed to acquire the non-memory operations of Hynix Semiconductor, one of the world's largest producers of memory devices. MagnaChip primarily offers flat-panel display drivers. The company also does a large business in silicon foundry (contract semiconductor manufacturing) services. Two Citigroup units, joined by Francisco Partners, bought the operations from debt-plagued Hynix and established MagnaChip as a freestanding company. Companies of the LG Group, primarily LG Display, are MagnaChip's biggest customers. Most of the company's sales are in Asia. MagnaChip Semiconductor filed and emerged from Chapter 11 in 2009.
