Spun off by Switzerland's industrial firm Alusuisse Lonza Group (Algroup), Lonza Group is focused mostly on research for pharmaceutical firms and chemicals. It is a contract manufacturer of the advanced intermediates and active ingredients used in drugs. Lonza also is active in biotechnology: it uses microbial fermentation and biotransformation to produce fine chemical intermediates and is involved in mammalian cell culture research. It also produces organic fine chemicals and performance chemicals (biocides and oleochemicals).
