Kindred Healthcare Company Description
Kindred Healthcare is one of the largest long-term health care providers in the US. Kindred operates some 225 nursing homes and more than 80 long-term acute care hospitals located in about 35 states. It owns some of its facilities, but operates most of them under lease agreements with Ventas and other third parties. Kindred also operates a contract rehabilitation therapy business, which serves its own and other long-term care facilities, through its Peoplefirst Rehabilitation division. In 2007 Kindred spun off its Kindred Pharmacy Services unit, which distributed drugs to long-term care facilities.
