Harry & David Holdings Company Description
Harry & David Holdings (HDH) wants customers to enjoy the fruits -- and flowers -- of its labors. Its Harry and David Direct Marketing catalogs and Internet unit offers gift baskets filled with gourmet foods, most notably its Royal Riviera pears and chocolates. Harry and David Stores sell fruit and flowers at 140-plus factory outlet and specialty shops in more than 35 US states. HDH has sold its mail-order nursery and wholesale business Jackson & Perkins. HDH had been owned by Yamanouchi (now Astellas), but was sold in 2004 to New York investment firm Wasserstein & Co. for about $260 million. In 2005 HDH's new owners filed to take the company public, but withdrew the offering in 2008.
