The world's well-known floral delivery service, FTD links about 20,000 North American florists and some 50,000 additional florists in 150 countries through its largest subsidiary, Florists' Transworld Delivery, Inc. (FTDI). FTD provides technology for FTDI, handling billing, and marketing. It also operates a direct-to-consumer business through FTD.COM and 1-800-SEND-FTD, offering more than 400 floral arrangements and 800-plus specialty products delivered next day throughout most of the US. FTD, formed in 1910, offered the first flowers-by-wire service. It is owned by holding company FTD Group (formerly Mercury Man Holdings), which was acquired in 2008 by Internet service provider United Online.
