Constellation Energy Group's leading light is still utility Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), which distributes electricity and natural gas in central Maryland. The company trades and markets wholesale energy through subsidiary Constellation Energy Commodities Group, which is one of the top power marketers in North America. Constellation Energy also operates independent power plants with more than 8,700 MW of generating capacity through its Constellation Generation unit, and it competes in retail energy supply through Constellation NewEnergy. In 2007 this unit acquired Cornerstone Energy, creating one of the largest natural gas marketing companies in the US.
