The Catholic mission of UPMC Mercy (formerly Pittsburgh Mercy Health System) is to do more than pray for the sick: It's also to treat them. Founded as Mercy Hospital in 1847 by seven Sisters of Mercy, it was the first hospital in Pittsburgh and remains the city's only Catholic hospital offering specialized services such as treatment for burns and traumatic injuries. The hospital's main campus offers both inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical care, and its three satellite outpatient centers offer a range of diagnostic and ambulatory surgical services. Formerly a member of Catholic Health East , Pittsburgh Mercy merged with UPMC in 2008. To read the full description, subscribe now.
