Part of The University of Texas System since 1969, the school was founded as the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest in 1961. Its initial mission was to provide science and technology education. Perhaps best known now for its computer science and business administration programs, UTD also operates schools of arts and humanities, behavioral and brain sciences, political science, engineering, general studies, and natural sciences and mathematics.
