Chasing the copper top and the pink bunny, Spectrum Brands is the US's #3 battery maker, after Duracell and Energizer Holdings, with its Rayovac brand. The company's alkaline batteries power such consumer gadgets as cameras, MP3 players, radios, and remote controls. The company, which markets its products in about 120 countries, is a leader in the sale of rechargeable batteries and hearing-aid batteries to manufacturers. Through acquisitions, Spectrum moved into pet foods and supplies, as well as products for lawns, gardens, and insect control. Spectrum gets more than half of its sales in the US; about 20% of sales come from Wal-Mart. The company emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in August 2009. To read the full description, subscribe now.
