Shanda is not the name of a far-out 1970s disco queen, but its digital content does promise to be legendary. The company also offers a variety of cartoons, literature, and music online. The company was one of the largest operators of online games in China through Shanda Games (producer of the popular Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games such as The Legend of Mir II and The World of Legend). In 2009 it spun off Shanda Games, raising a whopping $1 billion in an initial public offering in the US on Nasdaq. (The deal represents the biggest US offering to date by a Chinese Internet firm.) As a result of the IPO, Shanda Interactive maintains a controlling ownership interest in Shanda Games. To read the full description, subscribe now.
