    Austin, Texas, is home to Samsung Electronics' only two semiconductor fabrication plants outside South Korea. The first plant, called Fab 1, was built in 1997 and produces DRAM chips on 200mm wafers; they're used in PCs and computer servers. The other plant, Fab 2, was completed 10 years later and manufactures 16Gb NAND flash memory components on 300mm wafers. Fab 2, which is the size of nine football fields, is the largest single chip manufacturing plant in North America.
