Queen's University Belfast is Northern Ireland's foremost institution of higher learning. The University traces its roots to Queen Victoria's founding of the Queen's University in Ireland in 1845; in 1908 the Belfast institution became a freestanding university. Queen's, now ranked among the top 20 universities in the UK, enrolls more than 25,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and awards over 4,000 degrees each year.
