This link will open in a new window Sweet! Nordzucker AG ("north sugar") is Germany's second-largest sugar refiner (behind Südzucker , or "south sugar.") Nordzucker produces about 1.6 million tons of sugar made from beets (as opposed to sugarcane) annually at its 15 plants located in Germany and Eastern Europe. Through its sugar-marketing joint venture, Eurosugar , about 80% of the company's sugar is sold to the European food industry. Fifteen percent is sold under the SweetFamily brand, and the remaining by-product is sold as animal feed, molasses, and food for bees.
