MagnaChip Semiconductor was formed to acquire the non-memory operations of Hynix Semiconductor , one of the world's largest producers of memory devices. MagnaChip primarily offers flat-panel display drivers. The company also does a large business in silicon foundry (contract semiconductor manufacturing) services. Two Citigroup units, joined by Francisco Partners , bought the operations from debt-plagued Hynix and established MagnaChip as a freestanding company. Companies of the LG Group , primarily LG Display , are MagnaChip's biggest customers. Most of the company's sales are in Asia. MagnaChip Semiconductor filed and emerged from Chapter 11 in 2009.
