Silvinit thinks sylvite, a mineral used to make potash, is it. The company is Russia's second-largest producer (behind Uralkali ) and exporter of potash, a soil fertilizer made of potassium chloride. Silvinit produces almost 5 million tons of potash a year from its three mines in Verkhnekamsk, located in the Urals mountains. It also operates a 30-mile rail system and a port on the Kama River for its export operations. Silvinit exports the majority of its potash to Asia -- namely China and India.
