Icelandair Ground Services (IGS) is perfectly happy with both feet on the ground. The company offers ground services - handling, cargo, catering, and terminal services - at Keflavik International Airport, Iceland's largest, as part of parent Icelandair Group. It performs everything from airplane refueling and cleaning (interior and exterior) to cargo loading and warehousing. IGS' catering division produces 1.6 million meals a year for sibling Icelandair and other airlines, as well as for corporate clients. Its Terminal Services operates a handful of restaurants and bars inside Keflavik's Leifur Eriksson Terminal and offers catering to non-airport businesses. IGS began offering services at Keflavik in 1964. To read the full description, subscribe now.

    Competition

Competitive Landscape for Icelandair Ground Services
Demographics, consumer tastes, and personal income drive demand. The profitability of individual companies can vary: while QSRs rely on efficient operations and high volume sales, FSRs rely on high-margin items and effective marketing. Large companies have advantages in purchasing, finance, and marketing. Small companies can offer superior food or service. The industry is highly labor-intensive: annual revenue per worker is between $40,000 and $45,000. Restaurants compete with companies that serve meals or prepared foods, including grocery stores, warehouse clubs, delis, and convenience stores. In addition, restaurants compete with home cooking. To read the full description, subscribe now.
