The company manufactures and markets branded sports equipment -- including Penn-branded tennis balls and racquets -- in more than 85 countries. In a bid to boost its presence in a low-growth sector, the company has expanded by buying new brands and entering the snowboard market. The company has also expanded its brands through a variety of sportswear licensing agreements. Tennis great Andre Agassi uses Head racquets. Head was founded in 1950 by Howard Head, inventor of the first metal ski. The company is about 49% owned (and effectively controlled) by chairman and CEO Johan Eliasch and his family.
