The company's fast-growing Howdens Joinery subsidiary (founded in 1995) operates some 465 outlets in the UK and France that cater to the local building trade. Howdens, which began opening stores in France in 2008, operates about a dozen outlets there. Ultimately, Galiform expects the two countries to support at least 600 Howdens locations. The company makes its kitchen cabinets, doors, and complete kitchens at two factories in the UK. Previously known as MFI, the company sold its struggling ready-to-assemble furniture operations and stores in 2006 amid slumping sales, and changed its name to Galiform when the deal was complete.
