Aydin Dogan's one-time student side project has grown over the last five decades into one of the world's largest holding companies. Dogan Holding was founded in 1958 by its chairman as a transport company. It has since branched into media (Mr. Dogan runs the oldest newspaper in Turkey), energy, finance, manufacturing, and tourism. The company owns daily newspapers and magazines, cable television channels and radio stations, a majority stake in oil and gas distribution company Petrol Ofisi .
