Denbury Resources has long since buried its oil and gas operations in its native Canada to try its luck in the Deep South. The independent exploration and production company has estimated proved reserves of 250.5 million barrels of oil equivalent and working interests in wells and significant operating acreage in Mississippi, onshore Alabama, the Barnett Shale play near Fort Worth, Texas, and in properties in Southeast Texas. In Mississippi it owns the largest reserves of CO2 used for tertiary oil recovery (hydrocarbon recovery using advanced, unconventional techniques) east of the Mississippi River.
