Chesapeake Energy knows the peaks and valleys of the oil and gas business, including the 2008-09 oil slump. The exploration and production company concentrates on building natural gas reserves through the acquisition and development of oil and gas assets across the US. The Midcontinent region accounts for more than a third of the company's estimated proved reserves of 12 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent, but Chesapeake also has assets along the Gulf Coast and in the Permian Basin, Appalachia, and the Ark-La-Tex region.
