Baltija Shipbuilding has seen its fortunes rise and fall and rise again with the tide of international business and politics. Founded by the old Soviet Ministry of Shipbuilding in 1952 to build fishing ships, Baltija made barges, trawlers, and ferries, as well as steel floating docks in use in more than a dozen countries from Cuba to Indonesia. After floundering in the post-Soviet era, the company was purchased by Danish shipping giant A.P. Møller - Mærsk in 1997. Renovations followed along with a focus on outfitting ocean-going vessels to handle shipping containers and building the large docks used to secure cruise ships. Baltija also still builds steel ships, tugs, and barges. To read the full description, subscribe now.

Competition
Competitive Landscape for Baltija Shipbuilding Yard JSC
Demand for military shipbuilding is largely determined by the US military budget, and to a much lesser extent, the military spending of foreign governments allied with the US. Commercial shipbuilding demand is determined by international and domestic trade, the health of the global economy, and rate of fleet replacement due to age or obsolescence. Small companies usually specialize in building and repair of small commercial vessels. Large companies tend to offer a wide range of building and repair services for both commercial and military vessels, and enjoy economies of scale in purchasing, design, and manufacturing. The average annual revenue per employee is about $175,000. To read the full description, subscribe now.Top Baltija Shipbuilding Yard JSC Competitors
