BPI Energy (formerly BPI Industries) spends its energy acquiring, exploring for, developing, and producing coalbed methane reserves. The Canadian company moved its headquarters to the US in 2005 to focus on its operations in the Southern and Northern Illinois Basins, where it controls more than 534,200 acres of coalbed methane rights. It also leases acreage in other properties within the Illinois Basin and in 2008 reported proved reserves of 18.3 billion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent.
