The American Bankers Association (ABA) brings together banks of various types and sizes. Its members include bank holding companies; community, regional, and money center banks; savings associations; savings banks; and trust companies. The ABA serves as an advocate for its members in legislative and regulatory arenas; it also engages in consumer education, research, and training efforts. The ABA's BankPac, the banking industry's largest political action committee, provides financial support to candidates for the US Senate and House of Representatives. The ABA was founded in 1875 and claims to represent more than 95% of banking assets.
