    Alaska Railroad operates freight and passenger trains that run between Anchorage, near the Gulf of Alaska, up through scenic Denali National Park, and north to Fairbanks. Known as the railbelt, the area between Anchorage and Fairbanks is home to 70% of Alaska's population. Cargo carried by the railroad includes chemicals, coal, consumer goods, gravel, oil field and mining supplies, and petroleum products. The company's rail network spans some 465 miles of main line track, 80 miles of branch line, and 110 miles of rail siding (auxiliary track used to store cars waiting to load or unload).
