Alaska's DPS is the primary law enforcement and public safety agency for the largest of the 50 states. It includes the Division of Alaska State Troopers, which handles statewide law enforcement, crime prevention, offender pursuit and apprehension, prisoner transportation, and search and rescue efforts. Its Division of Wildlife Troopers protects Alaska's natural resources, while the Division of Fire and Life Safety protects against the loss of life and property from fires and explosions.
