ATAS, which has more than 12,000 members, presents the annual Emmy Awards and sponsors various television-related conferences and activities. The organization also oversees the Daytime Emmy Awards and the L.A. Area Emmy Awards, publishes emmy magazine, and oversees a number of television archives and educational programs through its ATAS Foundation. The Emmy statuette features a winged woman holding an atom aloft to symbolize the melding of art and science. The award's name is a deviation of "Immy," an early television camera.
