City of New York Company Description

The City That Never Sleeps, the Big Apple, Gotham -- NYC by any name is a unique place. With a population of 8.2 million packed into 470 square miles, New York City is run by the mayor and 51 city council members (elected to four-year terms) along with the public advocate, comptroller, district attorney, and presidents of the five boroughs. The highly centralized city government is responsible for welfare services, public education, the water supply/sanitation, correctional institutions, recreational facilities, public safety, and libraries. It uses about $60 billion a year to manage those departments. First settled by Europeans around 1614, New York took its current name when the British conquered it in 1664.
