Anadarko Petroleum has ventured beyond its original area of operation -- the Anadarko Basin -- to explore for, develop, produce, and market oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids, and related products worldwide. The large independent company has proved reserves of 1 billion barrels of crude oil and 8.5 trillion cu. ft. of natural gas, more 70% of which are located in the Continental US. Other activities include coal, trona, and mineral mining. Anadarko operates seven gas-gathering systems in the mid-continent. Internationally, the company has substantial oil and gas interests in Algeria's Sahara Desert, Venezuela, and western Canada.
