BRIEF: Wednesday's soaking helps quench Smith Mountain Lake [News & Advance (Lynchburg, VA)](28 Aug 2008 04:00:00 EDT)Aug. 28--The region's rain on Wednesday filled Appalachian Power Company's hopes that Smith Mountain Lake could rise. The amount of water pouring into the lake from the Roanoke River more than tripled between Wednesday morning and 1 p.m. According to John Shepelwich, APCo spokesman, water was coming in at nearly 3,500 cubic feet per second in the afternoon.
