In addition, U-Haul is a leading operator of self-storage facilities, maintaining about 1,100 storage locations in North America. Established in 1945, AMERCO is 55%-owned by the founding Schoen family. It is led by chairman and president Edward "Joe" Shoen. The firm has been facing mounting losses due to the economic downturn.
